Post Op Diet – Week 1
While in the hospital and/or 1st day post-op: ice chips and water…advance to a clear liquid diet.
Day 2 through the end of week 1
You may have 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of clear liquid every 30 you are awake. Water is strongly encouraged to help avoid dehydration (alternate – every other time)
Clear liquids include the following: (DO NOT USE A STRAW)
100% fruit juice (natural/no sugar added)
Cranberry juice, grape juice, apple juice, orange juice without pulp
Crystal light, Sugar Free Kool-Aid, Sugar Free Tang, Gatorade, Fuze Slenderize (dilute with water if needed)
No energy drinks.
Coffee or Tea – de-caffienated, use a sugar substitute and non dairy creamer if desired
Sugar Free Jello (without fruit pieces)
Ice cube trays – 1 oz per “cube”
Sugar Free Popsicles – make your own by freezing allowed fruit juices, Crystal Light, Sugar Free Kook-Aid in an ice cube tray
Broth (only) homemade, carton, or canned (strain all food items from soup)
Carbonated beverages NONE
Remember: Always stop if you feel full. This will keep your pouch from stretching. If you take any liquids that make you feel sick – STOP drinking them!
Vitamins and Calcium – Please check with your surgeon’s staff regarding appropriate vitamins and calcium suppementation…follow their instructions!!!

If dietary instructions are not followed, it may result in vomiting and or even perforation, leaks, ulcers, and other very serious complications
Plastic 1 oz cups
Caffiene deydrates colon and leads to constipation
Water every other time
