Post Op Diet – Week 2

Full Liquid Diet – Foods that are liquid at body temperature

Slowly – eat/drink at least 2 ounces (1/4 cup) every hour.

You must measure your intake every time to make certain you are getting enough fluids.

Do not guess! Eat and drink everything slowly – take tiny sips and bites. Watch the clock and measure before you swallow.

Added to 1 week list:

Oatmeal, grits, Farina and Cream of Wheat – make very soupy – unsweetened

Skim milk, low fat soy, almond, etc. – only milk you should drink or use in cooking/soups

Soups – cream and broth – STRAINED of all food particles

Pudding – Sugar Free and Fat Free

Custard – Sugar Free and Fat Free

Yogurt – Light and Fat free, also Greek Yogurt (Yoplait) which is blended yogurt with 2x protein

Jello-O – Sugar Free

Juices – No sugar added, unsweetened, 100% fruit juice – NO PULP

Popsicles – Sugar Free – no more than 2 twin bars a day

Water – plain with lemon, Crystal Light, or Sugar Free Kool-Aid (No energy drinks)

Tea and Coffee – decaf – use sugar substitutes, skim milk, creamer

Protein supplementation – as directed by nutritionist – see handout

DO NOT ADVANCE YOUR DIET UNTIL INSTRUCTED!

If dietary instructions are not followed, it may result in vomiting or perforation, leaks, ulcers, and other very serious complications.
