FatBlog began as a simple blog for BigSean to track meals, exercise, and progress with weight loss prior to adjustable gastric banding in mid-August of 2005.

Shortly thereafter, the weight loss surgery forums at SpotLightHealth along with its whole presence and WLS community disappeared. BigSean set up a discussion forum, mailed a few people, and within a few days hundreds had joined. The entire community migrated en-masse and the ‘blog’ part of FatBlog turned into a vibrant community.

After the FatBlog community’s fourth birthday, BigSean had a massive heart attack and was MIA for a while. A migration of software and hosts, along with the growing popularity of Facebook, saw a community shift. While the FatBlog community still enjoys a private place for WLS discussion, most of our community has migrated to Facebook. It’s hoped that this refresh will bridge the gap more easily and that FatBlog will continue to be a source of information and support for folks’ weight loss surgery journeys.
